Skiing

We had fun skiing at Bogus on Jan. 8th . Lisa, Riley, and Lucus Grigg met us at Bogus. It was a lot of fun. When we first got there we were on a different part of the mountain to meet some of Madison's friend for a ski race. It was awful, everyone had trouble skiing down the run we had to take to the lift. Wil fell every few feet, Jaxon had problems and Madison skied off of the run and her feet/skiis ended up around a tree. Jaxon tried to help her which made even more of a mess. When we got to the lift we had to wait for an hour to get on. Our trip down the run was much better the second time but we decided to skip the race and head for the bunny hill to see the Griggs. It was fun! They didn't want to stop skiing.

We went skiing the next weekend, Jan. 15th, with my cousin Abby, her daughter Harper, son Owen, babysitter Megan, and our Aunt JoLeta. Uncle Matt, Reece and Grandpa also went skiing. Ava stayed at the cabin with Grandma. It was a very fun day until Madison broke her leg at the end of the day. She was skiing with Greta and Megan. I was a few minutes behind with Harper and Wil with Grandpa. We came upon her sitting on the ground crying and saying she couldn't get up. She said her leg hurt really bad so I undid her boot and looked in, she had a lot of swelling on her shin. I called my Aunt Jo and she got me someone at the First Aid office who sent ski patrol. Ski patrol arrived after several long minutes and inspected the leg. It was decided that they would need to bring in a snowmobile to take her down the mountain. Madison was scared but very brave. After she was strapped to the tabogon the snowmobile took off. I was able to ride down on the snowmobile. I can't believe how fast they drive those snowmobiles. They go down drops and she would slide down in the tabogon and when they hit a flat area they would take off. I looked back and she was crying from fear. They took very good care of her though.

We went to the ER and found out that she had a broken tibia bone. It was a spiral break and was quite long. They put a really good splint on her and we headed back to the cabin. She was so brave and such a good girl.

On Tuesday the 17th she was put in a long cast. From her toes to halfway up her thigh. She didn't get to go to school until Monday because of her swelling & the doctor didn't want her break to move positions. It was already set correctly & he didn't want to have to reset it.

She will be back in commission to clog in about 3 months. Has a long cast for about 4 weeks, walking cast/ or boot 4 weeks, & some muscle therapy for 4 weeks to get back her strength.

She told the nurse at the orthopedics office that she was skiing & a bunch of ninjas jumped out & attacked her. The ER doc helped her embellish. The nurse stopped writing & just looked at her. Madison fessed up to the truth but the doc came in and said Ninjas huh?

Her one week x-ray after having the cast on showed good bone growth and she will get her cast off on the 17th. Madison has been amazing and handled everything with great strength. I don't even think her siblings know how bad a broken leg is because she has been so tough. She takes showers by putting her foot out of the shower on a kitchen chair. We soaked her splint by accident when we went to see the orthopedic doctor. She wanted a shower. I bought her a shower chair and a bag for her leg so she can still really enjoy her showers.

I am so proud of how well she as accepted the accident and what she has to do to recover.
