Greta and Wil

Greta and Wil both ran at the Bob Firman Invitational on Saturday.  I always have to withhold the tears when Greta starts running.  She wants to be on that start line and I am amazed at her mental toughness.  Her Chiari and the constricted SF flow that she is still struggling with make it very difficult for her to run.  Her neck and head hurt so bad after the ran down the hill that her Coach pulled her from the race.  She is a true winner though.  I don't know how she does it.  Wil received 10th out of 384 boys.  He ran a great race and received a medal.  Medals at Bob Firman are rare to receive.  33 middle schools from 5 states competed.  None of our HS athletes received a medal.  He worked hard for that medal and was super excited to receive it. 

Yesterday Wil won his first XC meet.  He wanted to lead the whole race but there was a boy that kept pushing the pace and passed Wil near the beginning.  Wil tried to pass 2-3 times but the boy would pick up the pace and Wil would settle in behind him.  When they hit the grass and had 200meters left Wil wasn't sure if he had anything left and if he would be able to sprint to try to win but he said that when he saw the finish line he decided he would give it all he had left and he started sprinting.  He won by 7 seconds and fell down after the finish line.  He didn't have anymore in him at all.  His legs gave out instead of slowing down.  Ava told me the whole time that he was going to make his move at the end.  That she knew he could do it.  She had complete faith in her big brother that he would win that race.  When he won she said "I told you."  She comes to all the meets and cheers him on, she runs around with me so she can see the whole race.  Sometimes her legs hurt too just like Wil's.
